Sucuklu Tost

Sucuklu Tost

Recipes with Sucuk

Turkey's grilled cheese: sliced sucuk and kaşar cheese pressed between bread and grilled until the cheese melts and the sucuk fat soaks into the toast. Found at every büfe (snack counter) and street cart across the country. The tost press gives it the signature flat, crispy exterior.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices white toast bread
  • 60g sucuk, sliced thin
  • 50g kaşar cheese, sliced
  • Butter for the outside of the bread

Steps

1

Layer kaşar cheese and sucuk slices between two bread slices. Butter the outside of both slices.

2

Press in a sandwich press or panini grill for 4-5 minutes until golden brown and the cheese has melted. If using a pan, press down with a heavy lid and flip once.

3

Cut diagonally and eat immediately. The sucuk fat will have melted into the cheese, turning it orange.

Tips

The classic büfe tost uses cheap white toast bread, which is actually ideal because it compresses flat and crisps up in the press. Fancier bread does not improve this. Kaşar is the traditional cheese because it melts into long, stretchy strings.
